Red River Canoe Company Lc.

Red River Canoe Company was founded in 1992 as a sole proprietorship by Bruce A. Keeler. RRCC began as a canoe livery, renting high performance canoes and equipment for use on the Colorado, Green and San Juan Rivers. We started business with six canoes working out of our original location at 38 South 100 West in Moab, Utah. During the second season of business, RRCC added two more canoes to the rental fleet and purchased additional equipment necessary to outfit multi-day canoe trips. The 1993 season also brought about a cooperative association with Tex's Riverways to provide jet boat shuttles for our customers needing return transportation to Moab from the confluence of the Colorado and Green Rivers. We had offered canoe instruction by certified teachers in an attempt to expand the sport of canoeing to a broader segment of the population. All of the added services, combined with our original livery/outfitting business make RRCC a well-rounded paddle sport company, targeting the canoe enthusiast as well as the general tourist population.

Canoeing, a popular industry in the East and Midwest for many years, is a growing recreational industry in the western U.S., It is an activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family. It attracts the tourist who is looking for a relaxing way to view the local scenery as well the active adventure-oriented recreationalist. Within a 100 mile radius of Moab there is a diversity of both calm and whitewater river sections. We are currently the only livery renting canoes for both flat and whitewater use in Southeastern Utah. As a company comprised of canoe enthusiasts we are committed to the promotion of the sport in our area.

In 1994 RRCC was reorganized as a limited liability company, adding Lisa Katz as a member. The season of 2001, Bruce and Lisa meet Theresa Butler as a guest guide for an all women trip down the Green River, and was invited to become a member of the llc. From 2003 Theresa has a lot of personal time invested in RRCC. In 2004 Bruce and Lisa turned the company over to Theresa and at this point retired from the river industry.

Theresa started in the river industry in 1992, with Arizona Raft Adventures, Flagstaff Arizona, working under food manager Drifter Smith. From 1992-97 she worked as the assistant food manager with responsibilities included planning, purchasing, and packing for 3 to 14 day river trip, and up to 75+ trips a season.

Theresa worked from 1994-97 boating the San Juan and Colorado Rivers (Grand Canyon), this included planning, caring, cooking, timing, reading eddy lines and currents. Theresa also has guest guided for many of the outfitters on the Colorado plateau, some locally, Canyon Voyages, Moab Rafting, and NAVTEC Expeditions. This experience has been added to every season there after. Theresa is certified with a Utah State guide license, Utah State Food handler, Wilderness First Responder, CPR and Swift Water Rescue. As many of us, Theresa has served for many years in the food service business as well, from dishwashing to managing.

Now Theresa and Jerry have built a home in the community of Moab, and plan to make it the best they can.

RRCC shop is now north of town and just a ½ mile from the Colorado River with plans to keep the utmost high standard of RRCC that Bruce and Lisa have hoped for. Our strongest points are our commitment to providing quality equipment and customized service for our clients. A place were clients will call a home away from home.

Our guides are selected for their technical skills and their ability to bring you safely through the rivers and backcountry. You are in the company of real experts who are devoted to sharing this region with you. They can explain the geology in terms everyone can understand, bring the flora, fauna and history of canyon country to life! Traveling with RRCC guides is like taking a vacation with a valued old friend. You know how great it feels to share something beautiful and awesome with a loved one? And if someone special isn’t with you, you can’t wait to show it to them? That is exactly how RRCC guides feel when they take you into the backcountry of the Canyons. They cannot wait to show you! They cannot wait to share the utter joy that they feel every time they walk those canyons or pass through the rapids.

All of our river guides are Licensed River Guides subject to rigorous requirements and training. River guides are trained in Emergency Medical Response and CPR certified. They are also trained in River Rescue.

Those qualifications you expect. Perhaps you do not expect that while you are camping with them, they can point out the constellations and share the mythology that is written across the sky. Maybe you will be surprised at their storytelling skills or their comforting sense of humor. And, of course, since they spend their lives immersed in canyon country, they are ready and willing to discuss the wildlife, native plants, geology and rich cultural history of the area.

RRCC is a small company so the person who takes your reservation on the phone may be your guide on the river. Our emphasis is on personalized service, we work hard for you to have the best time on the trip you are looking forward to.

Now that is a lot to ponder.

Thank you and look forward to meeting you.
